Thank you for this. I have a child remarkably similar who is only 6 and he has a 4 year old brother. I worry. I yell (a lot). I cry. I read and learn and do everything I can to help ease the chaos in our home and in his little mind and body. I know it will all be ok, I know he is going to be a leader and probably take over the world or solve a crisis or some other wonderful thing someday…but it helps to hear a story from someone on the other side of it, it helps to know it really is possible for it all to work out in the end.
Thanks for saying this, Justine, this is truly the reason I wrote this — to offer some hope to parents who are where I’ve been! Wish I had more practical advice; just never let him doubt your love for him. It’s all going to be worth it!
One person’s “Oppositional Defiance Disorder” is another’s “Payback for dressing your little brother in a strawberry nightgown and posting the picture on Facebook 44 years later”.
